Flora Gibbs and Johnathon Kennedy
In a first for Manea Senior College, two highest-ranking Year 12 students were awarded double dux in recognition of their exceptional academic performance. Having spent the last two years with heavy workloads, Flora Gibbs and Jonathon Kennedy shared subjects such as top maths specialists, chemistry and physics. Flora said all the hard work had paid off and it was satisfying to have been one of the award recipients in her graduating year. Ahead of their ATAR score announcements in late December, the pair agreed it was heartening to have received dux even if the final score was not as expected.
“I am proud of myself, the study has proved beneficial and hopefully I can get a job next year,” Jonathon said.
Hopeful for their ATAR scores to mirror their predicted results, principal Rod Rykers said the pair were fantastic young people who engaged in the community and maintained a balance in their studies.
“Flora and Jonathon are top students who are focussed, hard-working and driven,” Mr Rykers said.
“As a first for Manea, the ability of young people is evident with two students achieving dux.”
“We look forward to seeing their final results.”
“We still have to do WACE so there is a lot of work to go but even if my ATAR is bad, I am happy with the work I have put in,” Flora said.
Looking forward to a gap year next year, she said her next step would be looking at joining the army coinciding with Jonathon’s hopeful desire to become an air force or commercial pilot.
