Principal’s Welcome

Manea Senior College Principal Rod Rykers welcome message

Manea Senior College recognised as “a premier provider of VET and ATAR courses in the greater Bunbury and south-west region”
Independent Review 2016

Welcome to magnificent Manea Senior College.

Manea Senior College opened its spectacular facilities in February 2009. Located in Bunbury, Manea is the only specialist senior school in the South West region of Western Australia. For independent minded, goal orientated, respectful Year 11 and 12 students, who enjoy being treated as young adults and share our core values of choice, respect, responsibility and success, Manea Senior College has become the most popular choice for senior schooling in the South West.  Such is our reputation, parents have enquired about enrolment as far ahead as 2024!

Manea Senior College has the largest number of senior secondary students and offers the largest range of senior school courses in the entire South West.

In addition to a huge range of courses on offer, Manea is the only secondary school in Western Australia to offer a Health and Medical Specialist Program. This program gives our students interested in exploring careers in the health and medical fields a head start in their skills and knowledge.

Manea attracts students from over 30 schools, including significant numbers from private schools. Our students attend from towns and areas throughout the region, including some who travel for 3 hours per day to attend. This is not surprising when you look at what Manea offers and the results we have achieved.

Since opening, Manea has had students who have achieved an ATAR of 99+ and significant numbers of students achieving a Certificate III or Certificate IV along with their Western Australian Certificate Of Education. Our students have been head hunted for apprenticeships and have gained entry into highly competitive university courses such as medicine and engineering.

Manea was the first regional secondary school in W.A. to become an independent public school and we have used this flexibility to benefit students, including establishing an extensive academic support program and heavily subsidising the cost of VET fees.

Students at Manea experience challenging, invigorating and inspiring learning opportunities and teaching practices from carefully selected, expert teachers. Our staff accommodate the learning styles and expectations of senior school students, providing flexible and innovative approaches reflective of their needs. Our teachers and support staff build quality relationships to assist our students achieve their academic goals and provide support for the students social and emotional development.

Our staff continually reflect on two key questions:

• What is it about my relationships with students that makes them want to see me each day?
• What is it about my classes that makes students want to attend each day?

Located between our education precinct partners, Edith Cowan University and South Regional TAFE, our students have the opportunity to combine their school programs with nationally recognised training qualifications, as well as the ability to access resources and facilities across the precinct.

At Manea we have developed a unique timetable model that allows students to design a combination of courses and qualifications. We are highly flexible and focus on the individual needs of our students.

Manea's facilities perfectly match our young adult environment. Our students believe that the design and 'feel' at Manea is more like a university campus than a school. Our subject specialist teachers and disruption free environment adds to the university tone and our students graduate from Manea ready to soar as they head into university, full time training or employment.

All students at Manea Senior College are regarded as and interact with staff as young adults and have my trust and commitment and that of our staff. In return, MSC students respond accordingly and have always impressed me with their demonstration of our core values of choice, respect, responsibility and success.

Come and see for yourself why Manea Senior College is so popular and I look forward to meeting with you soon.

Regards Rod Rykers

Chloe's heading to UWA

Manea Senior College Year 12 student Chloe Barber is kicking some major goals in life at the moment, having been reserved a place at UWA and being selected into the Department of Human Service’s Indigenous Apprenticeship Program.

Her place at UWA was reserved via the school of Indigenous Studies after attending the UWA Year 12 Leadership Seminar for Aboriginal students earlier this year.

In May this year she applied for the Indigenous Apprenticeship program with the Department of Human Services and was selected as one of the 250 successful applicants out of more than 2400.

Not only is Barber studying Year 12, but she is also completing two VET qualifications on top her school studies as well as working two casual jobs. The secret is organisation.

“I’m quite an organised person and committed to everything I do,” she said.

“I just find time each day to get every single thing done while of course keeping an eye on my wellbeing — there is always time in the day.

“I’m passionate about what I do and that definitely makes things a lot easier.”

All of this commitment and passion will be put to good use in 2019 when Barber will be both studying and working full time, with her sights firmly set on a career in advanced medicine.

“I really want to get into something like neurosurgery or cardiothoracic surgery — something that effects a lot of people and to be the person to make a big medical breakthrough.”
